Health Career Role Model: Rebecca BaasRebecca has been chosen as one of NAN’s Health Career Role Models representing her community. She is a member of the North Caribou Lake First Nation. Rebecca has decided to follow her dream and the footsteps of her mother and become a nurse. She has successfully completed the RPN program with Confederation College in Sioux Lookout. During this time she has displayed commitment and drive, and spent many nights studying to achieve her goals. She worked 2 part-time jobs while going to school and managed to accomplish her goals and graduated from Confederation College in 2004, with a 3.19 GPA and a RPN diploma. After her graduation Rebecca enrolled in the Native Nurses Entry Program at Lakehead University and successfully completed it with an 87% average. Rebecca is currently in her 3rd year of the BSCN nursing program at Lakehead University and has maintained an 80% average throughout. She has also achieved scholarships and bursaries from the Cambrian College, Dennis Franklin Cromarty Memorial Fund and Windigo First Nations council. Rebecca has spent time tutoring fellow students in Chemistry, along with sharing her knowledge with other students of how to prioritize their time and how and what to study in order to be successful. Rebecca has become successful because of her dedication and she looks forward to starting her new career and providing care to those who need it.
