Health Career Role Model: Irene Beardy

Irene Beardy has been chosen as one of NAN’s Health Career Role Models representing her community of Muskrat Dam First nations.  She was originally from Kitchenumaykoosib Inninuwug (KI),  formerly known as Big Trout Lake.

Irene started her career working with the KI nursing station as a referral clerk and interpreter.  Her commitment to the health and well being of her people is never forgotten.

Irene is currently working with the Meno Ya Win Health Centre in Sioux Lookout, where she continues to this day to act as an interpreter and translator for the First Nations people who come into the hospital.  She works casual, but most often seems like full-time while home teaching her young family.

Irene is a very dependable, caring and knowledgeable individual.  She is very well respected and trusted by all her people and the health professionals who work with her side at the Meno Ya Win Health Centre.

Irene is a true example of how with motivation and dedication, you can benefit from the pleasures of helping others in the community.

Irene, congratulations and keep up the excellent service you have offered through-out the years.
