Massage therapists have a great knowledge of the muscles of the human body. They use various massage techniques to help treat muscle issues patients might have, such as pain, stiffness, or sports injuries.
Duties of a Massage Therapist:
- Interview patients to determine where the problem is and how it happened.
- Use massage thechniques to help alleviate pain and stiffness from muscles.
- Work with doctors and other health providers to help patients achieve total health.
Work Requirements:
Massage thereapists must listen carefully to their patients in order to determine the injured area. Strong hands that do not tire quickly are a must as Massage Therapists work with their hands all day long.

- Good listerner
- Genuinly want to help patients
- Mentally strong as you will be standing and working with your hands all day
- Passionate about your patients and practice
Education: 1-2 years post-secondary:
College diploma in Massage Therapy.
Certification:
Provincial: Must become a member of the Registered Massage Therapits Association of Ontario.
Courses taken in high school which will assist you in a career as a Massage Therapist:
- Chemistry
- Biology
- Anatomy
- Health
Job placement- after 1-2 years of post-secondary education your chances of finding a job are considered - Good.
An aging population will ensure the need to qualified Massage Therapists who are capable of treating muscle pain and stiffness.
Wages:
Average annual income: $37,000-$100,000 depending on the number of clients and where you work. Higher salaries are in areas of health care like clinics.
